In order to better implement quality education, deepen teaching reform, and promote the combination of theoretical study and practice, under the coordination organization of the School Research and Development Department, from January 14 to 15, 2019, Professor Luo Feiteng led graduate students Li Xuefeng, Cai Qicai, Yu Haocheng and other graduate students to Beijing to visit the China Academy of Aerospace and Aerodynamics. The graduate students have a deep understanding of the basic profile, development history, research contribution, etc. of the institute and have close contact with the famous "Rainbow" series UAVs at home and abroad. They also have face-to-face learning and communication with the chief designer of the "Rainbow" series UAVs, Shiwen Researcher, for the development and application of UAVs.
Under the leadership and explanations of the relevant personnel of the institute, the group first visited the "Rainbow" series of drone exhibition halls, watched the video broadcast of the Rainbow UAV. The real thing of the Rainbow UAV is a more intuitive understanding of the practical application and role of the independently developed UAVs in military and civilian fields. After visiting the UAV exhibition hall, the group went to the UAV simulation driving training center to experience the load operator's simulated target search and load striking operation, and realized the advantages of the drone in modern warfare and the important changes brought about by the development of aerospace technology. Through visits and study, we deeply realized the spirit of hard work, self-reliance and innovation in the aerospace industry.
After the physical visit, the researcher Shi Wen, the chief designer of the Rainbow UAVs, introduced the China Aerospace Aerodynamics Research Institute to the teachers and students and gave a lecture entitled "Development and Application of UAVs". Founded in 1956, China Aerospace Aerodynamics Research Institute mainly conducts aerodynamic theory, experiments and applied research in the aerospace field. Since the 21st century, it has developed a series of UAV research and development work based on its outstanding aerodynamic professional advantages. The "Rainbow" series of drones have outstanding technical advantages and application markets in China and even in the world. n the special lecture, the chief designer of Shi Wen first analyzed the future development trend of the drone from the definition of the drone and the status at home and abroad, and introduced the technological innovation of the "Rainbow" series of drones in detail. Including Rainbow's first armed drone design theory, combat mode innovation, and research and development of solar drones and future innovative drones, while conducting a unique analysis of the cultivation of scientific thinking. Shiwen Chief Designer patiently and carefully answered the questions of teachers and students attending the symposium. At the same time, he emphasized that our engineering students should not only pay attention to theoretical research, but also strengthen practical engineering application. Also wo should know how to balance technological innovation, product realization and market application in model development. Chief designer Shiwen finally expressed great expectations for our aerospace students. He hope that we will "brave innovation, dare to develop, scientific and realistic, and devote ourselves to research" and aim to contribute to the development of the motherland's aerospace industry. Through face-to-face learning and communication, the spirit of independent innovation and hard work of the vast aerospace scientific research workers represented by Shi Wen’s chief designer deeply touched everyone present. They expressed that they would take these research workers as an example, devote themselves to research, insist on seeking truth, be pragmatic, and take scientific and technological development and national rejuvenation as their own responsibility. They are determined strive to contribute to the progress of society and make their own contribution to the development of the country
Professor Luo introduced the relevant information of School of Aerosapce engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology to Chief designer Shi and other leaders, which attracted the attention and interest of the experts attending the symposium. Finally, the teachers and students sincerely expressed their invitation to Shiwen General Designer to have more extensive exchanges with schools and colleges, so that more teachers and students of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and College of Aeronautics and Astronautics could personally listen to the stories, spirit and strength behind the rainbow.
